From an early age we learned that dental hygiene is important, mum repeated to us until we had to brush our teeth three times a day, especially before going to sleep.

We are so used to this daily operation that the level of attention can fall dangerously with the passage of time, so that in the face of frequent and constant dental cleaning we find ourselves doing it incorrectly or inaccurately.

Brushing in the way indicated by the dentist helps to protect the enamel of the teeth and gums, which if neglected can lead to serious problems such as the fall of the teeth themselves.

And so, how do you brush your teeth? First of all you have to choose the right toothbrush. The head must be small, at least compared to the oral cavity of those who will use it. The bristles must be synthetic and of a quality suitable for the gums, so soft if your gums are delicate or if the brush is used by a child. It is not true that you have to wet the toothbrush before placing the toothpaste on it; on the contrary, the toothpaste should be poured onto the dry bristles, in amounts equal to about half a centimeter.

The correct way for brushing your teeth is to start from one side and finish on the opposite one. No circular or zig zag movements, the toothbrush must always move from the gum to the tooth and never the other way around, both in the upper and in the lower part, calculating about three steps for each pair of teeth. To clean the inside of the teeth, however, you must use the toothbrush in a vertical position, but always using it from the gum towards the end of the tooth, passing individually each tooth. Coming instead to the "chewing" part of the teeth, you will have to use the toothbrush so that the bristles perform a rotary movement.

Finished? No, there is also the tongue to clean! Extract it in front of the mirror and brush it from the bottom towards the tip. Now you have to clean the toothbrush, passing it under running water, and repeat the operations, this time without toothpaste. At this point you can rinse your mouth and use a mouthwash if you want.

Always take a couple of minutes to brush your teeth and change the brush often, at most every month and a half, not every three.
